Have you ever heard or thought of a new idea and said to yourself, “That sounds promising, I’m going to try it.” The first day of its implementation begins great and you can hardly wait to repeat it the next day hoping for even greater results. As the calendar keeps progressing, somehow the vision of your hoped success keeps fading into the distance. After just thirty days, the excitement of victory is somewhere buried with many other past dreams.
The words, I will, I promise, I know I can, just watch me, this is such a good idea, I know it will work, this is what I’ve always waited for, and this is the answer, have enveloped our minds and emotions over and over again. Expectations consume our very core and we look for people who will join us in our desire for success.
The word resolution is a promise YOU MAKE TO YOURSELF to do or to not do something.
The word revelation is a promise of GOD TO YOU to do or not do something.
Can you calculate the number of books, equipment, devices and food you have purchased to fulfill the resolutions you have made over your lifetime? What if you had not just used your mind to determine reaching your goals, but asked God for His wisdom to secure a pathway to His goals for you that would mean far less stress, time, energy and money?
Paul in his total frustration put it this way, “For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot perform it. I have the intention and urge to do what is right but no power to carry it out. Who will release and deliver me from the shackles of this body of death? O thank God! He will! Through Jesus Christ the Anointed One, our Lord! Romans 7:18, 24-25.
God’s promise is, “For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes (answer) in Him (Christ). For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him.” 2 Corinthians 1:20.
Father, help us choose not to make our own resolutions which sometimes end in defeat, but to ask You to reveal Your wisdom which always ends in victory.
